International Ninja Day

They could be behind you and you wouldn’t know. One could be sitting next to you as you read this. Ninjas. International Ninja Day recognizes the history and influence in pop culture of the Ninja. Whether it’s a historical period film of feudal Japan, or a bunch of mutated turtles who were trained by a mutated rat, Ninjas have become a large part of pop culture in the US. The international holiday was started in 2003 by Ninja Burger to celebrate the Ninja Speed their burgers were delivered. You are encouraged to learn about the art of Ninjitsu and not eat a bunch of burgers.

Ninjas were also called Shinobi. They were covert agents and mercenaries in feudal Japan. Their specialties included espionage, deception, and surprise attacks. This irregular warfare was considered dishonorable and beneath the honor of the Samurai. Despite the influences of pop culture, historic accounts of real ninjas are scarce. I’d wager this is because they were skilled in the art of deception and ‘invisibility.’ They were invisible in the way Batman hides in the dark to be invisible. I would like to point out there is no International Samurai Day and I feel this is equally important to learn about. So…watch out for Ninjas!

Flashback Friday Poetry: The Life Giver

she is the Life Giver
and the maker of pain
passing along what they taught her
the monsters of her shame
the Creature of False Belief
and the Taker of Innocent Game
create and nurture her grief
for me to one day claim
she attempts not to notice
she won’t accept the blame
her only true crime now
is pretending it all away
while striving for nothing
with everything to gain
she is the Life Giver
and Taker just the same

Early poetry from James. From the poetry collection Pariah Bound: The Lonesome Poetry.

Throwback Thursday Poetry: Nature’s Secrets

when the Wind can move and the Trees are free
when the Rocks will dance and the Grass can fly
nothing can stop all the Joys of the Sea

Nature’s Children can jump and play with glee
everyone loves to dream with hopes so high
when the Wind can move and the Trees are free

even in places where no one can see
even if the Land of the Earth is dry
nothing can stop all the Joys of the Sea

nothing is more satisfying to me
than that wonderful time that passes by
when the Wind can move and the Trees are free

all of the Insects are chasing the Trees
but this doesn’t cause the Bushes to cry
nothing can stop all the Joys of the Sea

if the Crafty Animals leave them be
Nature’s Secrets and Dreams will never die
when the Wind can move and the Trees are free
nothing can stop all the Joys of the Sea
