In other news, one of my unpublished stories was accepted for publication on Jitter Press. Once the story is published, I will post the link for you all to enjoy. This is exciting for me as it is the first story I’ll have published in the traditional sense. So far, I have only self-published all my work but continue submitting stories to online magazines. I’ll never give up and never surrender. It might take 45 years, but I will publish things and make a living from writing. I’m also nefariously plotting world domination with my spider minions.

I plan to have another small collection of fiction released in preparation for my larger paperback collection of short horror fiction titled “Morbid Museum” which feels never ending. I have a few stories to finish and a few more that still need revision. Also, I’m planning to begin writing another novel in November. I have many plans for my writing and never enough time to do it all. That’s the way life is, I suppose. Regardless of how long it takes, all these projects will be completed eventually. This does not mean I’ll be rich and famous but I’ll at least be able to say I accomplished something.

Some Panic Attacks Just Happen

You sit there, reading, minding your own business. To everyone else you look normal. They all think you’re a normal person having a coffee reading a book. Most of them don’t notice you. You blend into the crowd. You hide in plain sight. None of them could know what you think and feel, and you dare not tell anyone. You’re afraid it will scare them because it does scare you.

You sit, invisible to everyone; with your chest pounding, your thoughts racing, your hands shaking. You’re reacting to something. Something triggered you. Sometimes you know exactly why you were triggered. This is not one of those times. You don’t understand. You can’t explain it. You pick at your fingernails and cuticles. You twirl a pen or pencil in your fingers. You refill your coffee. Was it the coffee? Should you stop drinking coffee? The coffee didn’t bother you yesterday.

You survey the coffee shop. No one knows what’s happening to you. Even if they knew, they wouldn’t understand or care. Why should they care about you? They have their own problems. They’d think you were just some jackass craving attention. You know that’s what they’d think because that’s what you would think. But no one cares what you think just like no one cares what you’re feeling or what you’re doing. You’re the most insignificant person in existence.

You’ve pulled one of your cuticles too much and now you bleed. This distraction only works for a minute. Your thoughts stop racing, but your chest never stops pounding. You want to runaway but don’t know where. What you run from will follow you. How do you get away? Your thoughts are racing back, and your bloody finger doesn’t hurt anymore. You can’t even hurt yourself properly. There are never enough distractions.

You leave. You walk. You burn energy. It distracts you some and makes you tired. You need to feel tired. Keep running away until you’re tired; until your thoughts are tired.

The Publishing Adventures

I have submitted one of my short stories for publication in an online magazine.  I probably will not hear from them for a couple months, if at all, but I will keep everyone updated on the progress of this.  I am working on polishing some other stories to then submit to other publications.  The main goals are to build up some publishing credits and earn a few extra dollars along the way.  By obtaining publishing credits, I stand a better chance of getting some of my other works published by traditional publishers.  That of course is if my stories are accepted for publication.

I have a few stories that are finished and I have sent them off to a few friends to read and offer opinions.  They will likely notice mistakes or issues that I have not because I have been staring at these stories so much.  They are all avid readers and a couple of them are writers as well so they should offer valuable information.  Once they finally read them and get back to me…  I am confident in their abilities.  Honestly, I appreciate that they even offered to read them which is more than most people would do so I really cannot complain.  I am in their debt.  The writing process just seems to go by a lot faster now than when I first started writing.

Once I have enough stories finished up, I can finish work on my dystopian novel.  This one will take a lot more time to polish as well as to write.  There are more words to write and then I have to make sure there is continuity throughout to avoid mistakes and plot holes.  It is a very time consuming process but I hope this will not take as long as I am expecting.  We shall see how things turn out.  I am looking forward to having so many stories finished.  I do not care if they never get published.  I have achieved more than most and that is all that matters.
