Wacky Wednesday: October 7

Welcome to the first Wacky Wednesday of October. We have some weird words today. They’re wackier than usual. Nothing spooky though, if you’re worried. First up we have a noun that is the name of a shoe. Winklepicker is a style of shoe or boot worn by British rock and roll fans from the 1950s onward. It’s a shoe with a pointed toe to resemble medieval footwear. Our next word is a verb. Xertz (pronounced ‘zertz’) means to gulp something down quickly and/or in a greedy fashion. It can be used for eating but is most commonly used for drinking.

We have several food related holidays today. National Chocolate Covered Pretzel Day and National Frappe Day. Don’t order a Frappe at Starbucks. They sell Frappuccinos and they trademarked the term. Frappes are at McDonalds. The first Wednesday of October is also National Pumpkin Seed Day. Today is also National LED Light Day and the first Wednesday of October is National Walk to School Day and National Coffee with a Cop Day. Maybe the cop would like a Frappe. Most important of all, today is National Inner Beauty Day. This holiday is to raise awareness and support victims of human trafficking. If you can only celebrate one thing today, I’d celebrate National Inner Beauty Day.

What’s New Wednesday: September 2

I’ve tossed around the idea of adding premium content to my blog. This means certain posts would be reserved for paying subscribers. I thought this would be a fun way to share some of my unfinished work. Think of it as an exclusive sneak peak. I would probably charge $1 to $5 per month for something like this. There would be unpublished poetry and fiction. Some of it might even be first draft material. Is this something in which you, my readers, would have interest? I have tried Patreon and crowdfunding sources with no success so I’m reluctant to try this before having a larger readership.

I will need to search for more words for Wacky Wednesday before the end of the month. I am open to suggestions. Overall, not much will be new with the blog. I am working on getting a hard bound edition of “The Morbid Museum” for anyone interested in such things. I’m still working on the formatting and cover as I’ve never done those for a hardback book. I have a couple other works that are close to completing but I have not set a publishing date yet. I’ve spent so much time focused on this blog I’ve let the writing of my novel’s first draft fall away. I will attempt to return my focus to that this month.

Nothing too drastic is changing for you all. I’m dealing with some personal matters like dentist appointments and such. This has shifted my focus away from many things that I hope to return to soon. Hopefully, I’ll have more exciting updates and new things this time next month. Wacky Wednesday: September 2

Welcome to the first Wacky Wednesday of September. It’s a light day but still fun. We have a couple words and a couple holidays. Nothing too crazy. Our first word is Microsmatic. This is a simple adjective meaning having a poor sense of smell when referring to humans and certain animals. It’s not likely a term one will need for small talk. Unless you’re a pretentious know-it-all. Our next word is another adjective. Nudiustertian means of or relating to the day before yesterday. Similar to saying “yesterday morning” one could say the “nudiusterian morning.” Though I’m certain everyone just says “the other day.”

Our token food holiday for today is National Blueberry Popsicle Day. Since last week celebrated cherry popsicle day, it feels appropriate to continue the theme. Today is also National V-J Day. What does that mean? It stands for “Victory of Japan” by the Allied Forces during World War II. The surrender was officially announced on August 15, 1945. The official signing of the surrender was today September 2, 1945. This took place on board the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. That’s all for the bit of history and fun facts for the day.
