Poetry Monday: Having Gratitude in Times of Pain

I try to appreciate what I have
And try to ignore the things that I want
I always get exactly what I need
And happiness is just there within me
I accept my world as it truly is
But some things still push me towards the darkness
Like walking a tight rope, I keep balance
And try ever so hard not to fall in
I cannot lose to the darkness again

Throwback Thursday Poetry: My Heart

where’s all the love for me?
it’s been swept away in the breeze
stuck here without a thing
but i’ll keep on hoping

lost in my eyes from me
is all the love i’ve seen
it is hard to believe
that i still have nothing

searching for some peace
through the demons that keep me troubled
it’s too hard i can’t compete
i must lie here in the rubble

my heart is cold
i am 100 years old
will you please
just help me

it’s time for me to go
i am no longer well at home
i feel my soul is sold
i have nothing to behold

Twofer Tuesday Poetry: Cinnamon Whiskey Shanty & The Tommy Gun

Cinnamon Whiskey Shanty

I like to drink that cinnamon whiskey
Hey oh hey oh gonna’ drink all day oh
It burns my throat and makes me feel tipsy
Drinking rum and whiskey makes us feel okay oh

I sleep in the brig no bed in the forecastle
Hey oh hey oh gonna’ drink all day oh
The captain says I’m just a big hassle
Drinking rum and whiskey makes us feel okay oh

Sailors we all be sipping on our whiskey
Hey oh hey oh gonna’ drink all day oh
Life under the black ball will make you feel frisky
Drinking rum and whiskey makes us feel okay oh

The Tommy Gun

They started with the travel bans.
They slowly took our rights away.
They built and filled internment camps.
They watched as our children were killed.
Who rallied them with hate speeches?
Who brought death to many of us?
Politician turned dictator.
Ronald Teagun. The Tommy Gun.
