the creation of a child
such a wonderful thing
to bring a life into this world
can be gratifying
you want the best for your child
no harm for your offspring
but as they start to get older
they will fly from your wing
you may dislike when they rebel
they must be free to sing
if they never challenge your rule
or try to question things
they’ll never be their own person
they’ll never leave your wing
Throwback Thursday Poetry: Matchsticks and Playing Cards
smoke fills the room so dimly lit
poker chips fall as bets are made
talk is friendly but tension grows
it’s only a matter of time
as the cigar smolders alone
to call or fold; risk odds unknown
but in the company of friends
nothing ever feels more like home
Haiku Hump Day: April 28
Sunshine’s gleam goes on;
across the blanket of Ice
the Insects crawl on!
