Throwback Thursday Poetry: Matchsticks and Playing Cards

smoke fills the room so dimly lit
poker chips fall as bets are made
talk is friendly but tension grows
it’s only a matter of time
as the cigar smolders alone
to call or fold; risk odds unknown
but in the company of friends
nothing ever feels more like home
